Western Australian Wunda Shield-Aboriginal Art-Oceanic Art
This ancient Western Australian wunda shield was collected in the 1920s and has been with the same Outer Banks North Carolina family the past 100 years. It has been carved with non-metal tools with painstaking precision. The classic parallel zigzag motif is deep and exact. The shield is carved from a hardwood and is surprisingly thin. Notice the well-worn handle on the reverse. The shield dates to the mid to late 19th century, is 29 1/8” (73.7 cm) in length and sells for $4000.
