Papua New Guinea art objects and artifacts | ceremonial house painting
Here is a beautiful ceremonial house painting done on sago spathe from the Keram River area—a southern tributary of the Lower Sepik River. The painting comes from the Louis A. Allen Collection formed in the 1960s/70s ( a significant portion of his collection was sold to the Art Gallery of Western Australia in 1989). It dates to the mid 20th century, is 38 ¾” (98.3 cm) in height by 25 ½” (64.8 cm) in width and sells for $3500. Questions?
