Two Old, Authentic New Guinea Cassowary Bone Artifacts, Collingwood Bay and Astrolabe Bay, ex. John Friede New Guinea Art Collection offered by Michael Hamson
On the left is a very rare bone lime spatula from the Collingwood Bay area of Oro Province, Papua New Guinea. Carved with a nice openwork design and a curled bird’s beak top the spatula shows extensive use on the tip—stained classic red/brown. This is 7 ¾” (19.6 cm) in height and sells for $1100. On the right is an ancient cassowary bone dagger with claw top, native repairs, thick encrusted patina that was part of a shrine that from Astrolabe Bay that included two bullroarers and human finger bones, ex.
