Maori Hei Tiki-Polynesian Art-Oceanic Art
This ancient Maori hei tiki pendant comes from a British Columbia collection and is on the market for the first time in over 110 years. It is wonderfully thick in body, a deep green in color and has remains of red wax in the eyes. There are three early holes for suspension of which two have worn through. Notice these are the most ancient form of construction where two craters were cut out on opposed sides to pierce the stone. Judging from the defined ribs this is a rare female tiki. It is assuredly 18th century or before, stands 4 1/8” (10.3 cm) in height. SOLD
