Coastal Ramu River Mask-Constance McCormick Fearing Collection-New Guinea Art-Oceanic Art
This Coastal Ramu River mask, while not stone-carved, is ancient. The deep-set eyes are bright blue, the face has layers of red paint, and the mouth is orange and white. There is a bite stick lashed to the back of the mask and the patina is natural, dry, and weathered. The mask comes from the Constance McCormick Fearing estate and is on the market for the first time in over 40 years. It dates to the early 20th century, is 19 5/8” (49.7 cm) in height. SOLD
