By Descent: Oceanic Art From Old Collections New Guinea & Polynesian Art
For the Parcours des Mondes show in Paris in September 2019 I produced a 140-page catalog entitled “By Descent: Oceanic Art from Old Collections” with essays by Dr. Wonu Veys, Barbara Wavell, Robert Welsch, Carol Ivory, Jean-Philippe Beaulieu, Dr. Virginia-Lee Webb and Thomas Otte Stensager. I illustrate over 50 museum-quality pieces of Oceanic art with an emphasis on items never yet seen on the market. Highlights include a Marquesas Island masterpiece god figure collected in 1834 and passed down through the family for the last 185 years. The same goes for a superb Coastal Sepik figure being offered the first time in 110 years. Besides my usual focus on New Guinea there are a good number of Polynesian objects, other Melanesian pieces and even a pair of superb Micronesian figures from Yap Island. The catalog is softcover but printed on heavy, high-quality paper. It is priced at $24. Shipping charges are $4 within the US and $38 to Europe and Australia (yes, shockingly high but that is what the post office charges). Questions?
