Old Man Making Clamshell Currency Rings, Classic Pieces of Oceanic Tribal Art
This is how they made clamshell currency rings in the Prince Alexander Mountains of Papua New Guinea. The supported the clamshell, used a rope of a twisted vine, some sand as grit and sawed away until the rope broke, made another and continued on until the slab was cut through—Boiken or Arapesh village, circa 1996.
